Here are the four new yearlings in our Summer Offering. The Giant’s Causeway colt was purchased at the Saratoga Select Sale, while the other three came out of Fasig-Tipton’s July Sale. These July yearlings are all by first-crop stallions, so there’s an air of mystery about them. We do know, however, that Hard Spun, Corinthian and Discreet Cat (sire of our filly) were murder on the race track and we have no reason to doubt their ability to pass such talent on to their offspring.
We all dream of the Kentucky Derby! So, note this: a recent study of Kentucky Derby starters (from 1989 through 2010) shows that Dogwood Stable ranked among the world’s top owners, with seven starters. We feel this speaks volumes about our ability to find a good horse at a below-average price – and make it to Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May.
We often say that picking out yearlings is like building a major league team out of 12-year-olds. We love the challenge and the fact that these youngsters will go through the breaking process in our program here in Aiken is an important ingredient to their success. Thirty-eight champions have come out of Aiken and countless major stakes winners.
